Good Friday Breakfast :: 9:30am @ Orleigh Park

Let’s take the opportunity of being off work to:

  • get together for breakfast
  • hear the story of Jesus’ death from the Bible
  • talk about it together
  • invite friends who aren’t Christian to be part of it

Bring some food to share (best to pre-cook but I’ll bring our little barbecue which you’re welcome to use).

Meet at 9:30am (come late or early as suits you).

I’ll aim to get everyone together at 10am to read again the passage we looked at on Sunday past, Luke 23:26-49. You might like to think of an element of that which you could pick up in conversation.

You’re very welcome to come and be part of it!

The google map marker below is on about the right spot if you’re not too sure about where to meet.

Sojourn’s Christmas Carols

This year carols are on Sunday 11 December.
You’re invited.
5:30pm barbecue and face painting
6:30pm carols by glow sticks
Dutton Park State School Hall,
112 Annerley Road, Dutton Park (map below)

Christmas is a time when we think about wants:
what we want and what those we love want.
We even use it as an excuse to be a little greedy!

But what if we’re not asking for enough?

What if the boy in the comic is almost right?
What if world peace underestimates God’s gift?
What if God offers the perfect world in his perfect presence?

CS Lewis puts it like this:

…if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.

Carols this year will be a great opportunity to eat, sing, think, thank, socialise and ask for more!

The development next door

The school hall we meet in on Sundays is right next to Boggo Road urban village, home of the Ecosciences Precinct. This development is the reason we have such good transport links, with Park Road Train Station and Boggo Road Busway station servicing the urban-village-to-be and therefore the school we meet in.

The next phase of development will be under way soon–that will include a sizable residential component. Here’s an artist’s impression of where things are heading (source: The Courier Mail, 21 November 2007). It’s old news but for most of us not something we’d have taken note of in 2007.

If you’re praying for Sojourn

God is the one who changes circumstances, hearts and minds… including ours.

  • Thank God for the love we have for one another and for those who don’t yet believe in the community and around the city.
  • Pray that in response to God’s grace our community groups would be characterised more and more by love which longs to see God save and keep his people.
  • Pray that the gospel would motivate us to speak with unbelievers and soften the hearts of those to whom we speak it. Pray that God would save many here in Brisbane.

Thanks for your partnership with us.

Don’t waste your 25th August 2011

Our friends at Queensland Theological College are hosting John Piper’s visit to Brisbane. He’ll be speaking at the Convention Centre on Thursday 25th August.

You can hear a snippet of the catch-cry which will dominate the evening in the video below–Don’t waste your life.

Don’t miss this opportunity to gather to hear God’s word with a crowd from around South East Queensland and beyond. Do pray that God will be at work by his Spirit to stir us up.

The event starts at 7:30pm on Thursday 25th August, registration is open now:
